Collections

It would be impossible for us to list all of our collections.  Below you will find a few and categories of others.  This list will change from time to time, so check back.

Our collection consists of thousands of items, archives, and artifacts.  Many are on display but most are in storage in one of the five buildings we own.  The main museum and displays are in the Ellis building mentioned in the overview.  Just north with a fenced outdoor compound separating the three are the aviation building and garage.  The open compound is fenced and contains "six-by" trucks (2 1/2 ton military trucks), a "water buffalo" (Large capacity water carriers on wheels), a Huey helicopter, and more.  The aviation building and garage house Jeeps, weapon carriers, the ambulance, a Huey helicopter, a Cobra helicopter, and much more.  Most of the mechanic work on the vehicles is done there.  West, across the street from the Ellis building, are another two two story buildings, built in 1883, which house much of the stored items and artifacts and will become the library after the organization is complete.  There are uniforms, gear, tools, equipment, etc.

On the second floor of the Ellis building is the temporary library.  There is kept the approximately 10,000 books, pamphlets, maps, records, pictures, and audiovisual collections.  Volunteers from the Missouri  Western State University library are organizing the collection.

Here we also house our Oral History program.  The Library of Congress and its American Folklife Center have a "Veteran's History Project" preserving stories and creating a lasting legacy of wartime experiences.  We participate in that program and are a repository for the Veteran's History Project.
